AMAALA and Shura Marinas: What Saudi Red Sea Licences Mean for Yacht Owners

AMAALA and Shura receive marina operator licences. Compare published berth capacity, conflicting yacht-length figures and the booking file a captain needs.

Information checked: 26 October 2026. Announced schedules and facilities may change; confirm the offer for your dates.

For a yacht owner, the difference between a beautiful destination and a workable port call lies in the details. The operator licences announced for AMAALA and Shura are an important development, but a licence is not an individual berth reservation. This guide explains the news and the information to obtain before arranging a visit.

The appeal of a well-paced Red Sea stay

For guests, the attraction is the combination of time on the water and a shore programme that feels unhurried. That experience starts with practical choices: the right berth, a clear arrival contact and accommodation and dining that fit the actual destination. A longer lunch or a quiet afternoon ashore works best when the captain already has the operational details settled.

For an owner or charter party, privacy, timing and flexibility should be part of the brief, rather than assumptions attached to the word luxury. Agree who coordinates the guests, who handles the vessel and how a change of schedule is communicated. That preparation leaves more space to enjoy the coast without turning every decision into an arrival-day negotiation.

Two marinas, with different destination contexts

Red Sea Global announced final operator licences from the Saudi Red Sea Authority on 1 October 2026. It gives 119 berths for AMAALA and 159 for Shura. AMAALA belongs to the AMAALA destination; Shura is the island hub within The Red Sea. They should not be treated as one marina. Read the operator’s announcement.

The yacht-length figures need written clarification

The licensing announcement describes accommodation for superyachts up to 120 metres, while the AMAALA Yacht Club page states up to 130 metres for its marina. These published figures differ. An owner or captain should request written confirmation for the actual vessel rather than selecting the larger number as a guaranteed limit.

Length alone does not establish suitability. Send the vessel’s overall length, beam, draught and relevant technical needs, and ask the marina to confirm the proposed berth and any restrictions. This is a practical enquiry checklist, not a statement of official entry requirements.

A port-call file that makes the quotation useful

Prepare the intended arrival and departure, length of stay, vessel particulars, contact for the captain or manager and the guest or crew arrangements that require assistance. Ask which documents the operator or appointed agent needs and through which official process they should be supplied.

For a charter, distinguish the owner’s arrangements from those of the charter party. Clarify who may approve costs and schedule changes. A broker’s itinerary, a marina quotation and a confirmed berth are different documents; keep the final confirmation with the voyage file.

Services: confirm capacity, availability and price

Ask about shore power, water, fuel arrangements, waste handling, provisioning and technical support for the dates requested. The presence of a service in a destination announcement does not establish its capacity, lead time or tariff for your yacht.

Request an itemised quotation showing what the berth includes, extra services, applicable taxes, deposit, cancellation and late-departure conditions. For larger vessels, confirm any advance notice and supplier coordination before promising an arrival programme to guests.

The yacht club and the marina are separate decisions

A berth enquiry should not be assumed to include club membership, dining access, a pool or a private event space. Confirm the specific guest access attached to the reservation and any dress, age or booking conditions communicated by the club.

For an owner’s event, identify the guest count, shore access, catering, staffing and cancellation terms. Keep hospitality arrangements distinct from the vessel’s operational approval. A spectacular clubhouse can be a destination feature without being an unrestricted facility for every visiting party.

Build the shore programme around confirmed arrangements

Match accommodation, airport transfers and activities to the correct marina and destination. Ask for the actual collection point and travel arrangements. Avoid using a resort name elsewhere on the Saudi coast as evidence of a short or convenient transfer.

Before including diving, water sports or shore excursions, confirm the provider, permission process where applicable, available dates and cancellation conditions. Route planning and operational decisions belong with the captain, authorised agents and current official information, rather than a promotional distance or a magazine itinerary.

Our assessment: what will determine long-term value

The licences matter because they support the move from destination announcements to an operating yachting offer. Their value for owners and companies will be judged through reliable berth confirmation, transparent service quotations and coherent arrangements ashore. This is our assessment, not a guarantee of availability or investment performance.

For repeat visitors, keep a record of confirmed services, invoices and the operator’s contact details, then update the file for each call. Do not carry over last season’s limits or terms without checking. The most useful luxury at a new marina is operational clarity.

Questions before booking

How many berths are announced?

The 1 October release lists 119 at AMAALA and 159 at Shura.

Can a 130-metre yacht definitely book?

No conclusion can be drawn from length alone. Published figures differ; obtain vessel-specific written confirmation.

Does a marina licence guarantee a berth?

No. Availability, technical suitability and the individual reservation must be confirmed.
