A building left unused on the hills above Ramatuelle became the starting point for La Réserve. When the hotel opened in 2009, Jean-Michel Wilmotte’s team had renovated and extended a structure dating from the 1970s. The project kept its existing footprint, volumes, render and brickwork. A modern Riviera hotel grew out of something already there.
That beginning gives the address a particular interest. The French Palace distinction can suggest inherited grandeur, but this house has a more recent architectural story. Its appeal depends on what the building does with the hillside and the Mediterranean, and on how much distance a guest wants from the coast’s busier social life.

The building that set the terms
Michel Reybier commissioned the transformation. In the architect’s project account, the setting is a hill of holm oaks and umbrella pines. Natural materials and a restrained palette accompany terraces and private gardens. The sea is a constant point of reference, while the architecture works with an inherited structure.
Reusing a building imposes choices. The site has dimensions and relationships before the new hotel has a name. Here, that constraint belongs to the story: an old footprint becomes part of the explanation for a contemporary retreat. At the 2009 project stage, the estate also included 12 rental villas. It also offers a useful way to look at the photographs, paying attention to the land around the architecture as well as the building itself.

Wilmotte’s structure, Garcia’s later chapter
A later decorative programme brought Jacques Garcia into the lobby, the hotel’s 8 rooms and 19 suites—27 keys in all—the bar and the restaurant. The hotel describes the inspiration as the decorative arts of the 1950s and 1960s. Those dates concern the language of the interiors; they should not be confused with the age of the hotel or the 1970s building beneath its transformation.
The distinction matters when choosing a stay. Architecture establishes scale and outlook; decoration changes the atmosphere of a room. Look at the photographs of the actual room category offered, particularly its terrace, garden and stated sea view. A partial view and a broad panorama are different purchases, even within the same property.
The hotel’s account of Garcia’s interiors is a useful companion to the older architectural record. Together they explain successive decisions, rather than a single design frozen at the opening.

A room and a villa promise different days
The main hotel’s 8 rooms and 19 suites sit alongside 13 private villas in the current official inventory. Current categories include three-, four-, five- and six-bedroom houses, with private gardens and swimming pools. The official photographs in this section illustrate the residential side of La Réserve; the opening photograph shows the hotel’s main building and pool.

For a couple, a hotel room can keep the daily routine simple. A larger family or a group may value a house where breakfast, time outside and quieter evenings follow a shared rhythm. That choice also changes the questions worth asking: pool arrangements, distances within the estate, included housekeeping and whether meals or a private chef are part of the booked package.
The hotel operates seasonally: its published 2026 season ran from 1 May to 11 October, while the private villas are promoted year-round. The winter villa programme is offered separately from the summer hotel experience. Read its inclusions for the chosen dates. Access to particular services, transfers and dining arrangements belongs in the booking confirmation, rather than being inferred from photographs of a summer terrace.

La Voile, and the importance of the season
La Voile is led by chef Éric Canino, whom the hotel identifies as a two-Michelin-starred chef. The restaurant’s Mediterranean approach gives vegetables, fish and local produce a prominent place. It is a distinct reason to consider the address, with its own reservation and operating calendar.
There is an important timing detail for anyone reading this in autumn. At our review on 15 October 2026, La Voile’s official page announced its seasonal closure and a return in May 2027. The separate La Réserve à la Plage website announced reopening on 28 April 2027. These dates should be checked again before making arrangements.
A winter villa stay therefore needs to be planned around the services actually offered in winter. Ask which restaurants are operating, what access to the Nescens spa is included and how any meals in the villa are arranged. Allow time for a spa appointment rather than squeezing it between a late arrival and dinner.

The last part of the journey belongs in the plan
The address is 736 chemin des Crêtes, 83350 Ramatuelle. The hotel’s location page lists Nice Côte d’Azur and Toulon–Hyères airports, Saint-Tropez–La Môle for predominantly private aviation, and rail arrivals through Toulon or Aix-en-Provence TGV.
Choose the arrival point around the actual transport connection and the onward journey. Allow a margin on busy coastal days; a fixed transfer time is a poor basis for a tightly timed flight or dinner. A late arrival also warrants a practical conversation about reception, food and the route to the accommodation.
For another chapter in the Riviera’s hotel history, Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc and the Murphys’ summer offers a different relationship between a house and its coastal reputation. La Réserve’s distinctive story begins with the decision to work on an existing building. Choosing it well means giving the same attention to what is already on the ground: the slope, the view, the distance and the season.
