Your London–Paris ticket may be straightforward. The minutes after stepping off the train can be less so: which exit, where is the car, and who is meeting you? At Gare du Nord, an easy arrival starts before departure, with a named contact and a clear plan for the journey to your hotel. The station’s historic façade deserves a look; the practical details deserve just as much attention.

Where is Paris Gare du Nord?

Paris Gare du Nord, sometimes written as Paris Nord on tickets, is in the city’s 10th arrondissement. Its historic façade faces rue de Dunkerque. Use the full station name in your map search. It is a railway station, not an airport, and arriving here does not automatically complete your journey to a hotel, meeting or onward flight.

The station has several entrances and circulation areas. “Outside Gare du Nord” is therefore a poor pickup instruction. The official SNCF station guide provides practical information; a confirmed meet-and-greet booking should go further and identify the meeting place. If you leave through a different exit, contact your host before walking to another street with your luggage.

A short history behind the stone façade

The first station opened in 1846. Its replacement, designed by Jacques-Ignace Hittorff, opened to the public on 19 April 1864, according to SNCF Gares & Connexions’ station history. The monumental arches, clock and sculptural details belong to a building shaped by the expansion of rail travel.

Osama Samaha’s photographs show the historic frontage alongside the glass entrance and modern passenger spaces. They also explain why a station name alone is not enough for a meeting: the façade, the mainline concourse and the local transport levels are parts of the same destination, not a single point. Enjoy the architecture when you have time; establish your route first when arriving with bags.

London, Brussels and Amsterdam: read the station, not just the city

For a journey between London and Gare du Nord, look for London St Pancras International. It is a central London railway station, not Heathrow or Gatwick Airport. Travellers starting at a British airport need a separate connection to St Pancras; use Transport for London’s journey planner for the date, route and luggage arrangements that suit them.

Eurostar’s station list covers destinations in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany as well as France. Gare du Nord routes include London St Pancras, Brussels-Midi, Amsterdam Centraal, Rotterdam and Cologne. Check the specific service: being on the network does not mean every departure is direct or has identical stops. For Cologne, SNCB International confirms direct Eurostar services from Gare du Nord.

International station names worth knowing

Destination Station name What to check
London London St Pancras International Travel checks and arrival instructions; this is not an airport.
Brussels Bruxelles-Midi / Brussel-Zuid Your direct or connecting service and travel date.
Amsterdam Amsterdam Centraal Do not confuse the city station with Schiphol Airport.
Rotterdam Rotterdam Centraal Stops on the specific booked service.
Cologne Köln Hbf / Cologne Availability of a direct train on your date.

Routes and timetables can change. Use the ticket and operator’s live information, not a photograph of a departure board. Eurostar · SNCB International

French trains and onward connections

Gare du Nord also serves northern France and regional and suburban journeys. Check SNCF Connect for your actual date and route to destinations such as Lille, Amiens or Beauvais. Read the complete arrival name. Lille Flandres and Lille Europe are different stations; that distinction matters when arranging a pickup or a connecting train.

If your next service leaves from Gare de Lyon, Montparnasse or Gare de l’Est, allow for a separate station transfer. This is not a platform change within Gare du Nord. Children, large suitcases and a need for step-free access all affect the margin you should build into the plan, even when the map makes the journey look simple.

A London departure is not the same as an arrival

Cross-Channel departures involve travel checks, so follow the arrival recommendation and gate-closing time on your ticket and the operator’s current instructions. Do not apply the boarding routine of another European train to London, or set your hotel departure using the train’s departure time alone. Check Eurostar’s Gare du Nord guide before travelling.

On arrival, keep the train reference and your contact details available offline. Gather every bag, then follow the agreed meeting instructions. This guide does not assign one permanent platform or door to all trains. Operational arrangements can change; a useful arrival service is organised around your particular train rather than an old, general instruction.

From Gare du Nord to your hotel: compare the whole journey

Local connections include Métro lines 4 and 5 and RER B and D, with other links shown in the official interchange guide. Public transport can be practical for a traveller with manageable bags and a suitable hotel location. Examine interchanges and lift access, not simply the number of stops.

A taxi from the official rank is a different product from a booked welcome in your name. A private chauffeur may suit a family, business guest or party going straight to a specific address. Compare the complete price, luggage capacity, child seats, waiting arrangements and cancellation terms. A prestigious model that cannot accommodate the group’s cases is not a comfortable choice.

Gare du Nord to Charles de Gaulle Airport

RER B links Gare du Nord with CDG. Check the train’s destination: the line branches, and not every northbound service goes to the airport. RATP’s airport guide explains the distinction between Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1 and Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2, with onward terminal access where required.

The train ride is only one part of an airport connection. Allow for walking through the station, waiting, reaching the correct terminal, baggage check-in and security. Review RER B engineering and traffic information for your travel date. Orly requires a different itinerary; a CDG-bound train does not serve every Paris airport.

Luggage, children and assistance

Keep important belongings close and verify the identity of anyone helping with your bags against your confirmed booking. If you need official boarding or mobility assistance, arrange it with the rail operator or relevant station service. A private car reservation does not replace assistance associated with the train journey.

Before confirming the vehicle, provide the children’s ages, pushchairs and bag count. If a passenger needs specific space or equipment, ask for written confirmation of suitability. A few extra minutes for loading can be more valuable than a tight schedule that leaves everyone rushing. Share practical needs early rather than trying to solve them on the pavement.

OUISTARS meet & greet: know us before you arrive

The aim is simple: you should not arrive in Paris and only then start looking for someone you have never spoken to. When a Gare du Nord welcome with OUISTARS is confirmed, the arrangements begin before the journey: train details, guest name, contact method and a clearly agreed meeting place in the station’s publicly accessible area.

Before you start looking for us, we have already planned your welcome. You know who will contact you and what happens next, whether you are travelling to a hotel, an appointment or another agreed destination. The meeting takes place where access is permitted, after arrival formalities where applicable. It does not imply access to restricted border areas or platforms.

Advance booking makes this an organised arrival rather than an uncertain search. Send the date, train number, passenger and luggage details and destination. Request written confirmation of the vehicle, meeting point, waiting and cancellation arrangements. You do not have to solve every station detail alone, but the service needs to be confirmed before travel. That is where the reassurance begins.

Gare du Nord: practical questions

Where does the London train arrive in Paris?

Eurostar services between London St Pancras and Paris use Gare du Nord. Check the station pair printed on your ticket.

Is St Pancras a London airport?

No. It is a railway station in London. Arrange a separate connection if travelling from Heathrow, Gatwick or another airport.

Can a chauffeur meet us inside Gare du Nord?

A meeting can be arranged in a permitted public area when the service and meeting point are confirmed. Restricted-area access must never be assumed.

Does a Eurostar ticket include a hotel transfer?

Do not assume so. Rail travel, a station welcome and a private car are separate bookings unless a confirmed package expressly combines them.

What information is needed for a station pickup?

Date, train number, origin station, arrival time, guest name, reachable phone number, passenger and luggage counts, children’s ages and the final address.

What happens if the train is delayed?

Contact the operator and follow the waiting and amendment policy in your booking. Unlimited or free waiting should not be assumed.
