Sometimes a whole journey begins with the name of a restaurant. Asador Etxebarri has topped The 50’s 2026 ranking. For travellers, the next question is how to turn the wish to experience it into a well-planned trip.
The announcement and the location
The 50 announced Asador Etxebarri as its 2026 number one at the ceremony in Lima on 4 November. The restaurant is in Axpe, in the Atxondo valley of Spain’s Basque Country. The regional tourism authority describes a grill housed in a restored farmhouse.
A title cannot choose for you
The award belongs to this ranking and this year. It does not make one meal suitable for every taste. Consider the food you enjoy, how much time you want to give the experience and the budget you feel comfortable spending.
A good trip need not be a test of someone else’s approval. If travelling together, agree on expectations before booking: is the meal the main occasion, or one stop within a broader holiday?
Confirm the table before the rest of the trip
Use the restaurant’s authorised channel to confirm the date, party size and written conditions. An older article is not evidence of current availability or price. Ask about the current menu, what it includes and any additional charges.
