Illustrative scene inspired by a Budapest trip.
Coffee beneath chandeliers, a Danube view and time in warm water: build Budapest around the experiences you actually want. This guide gives you places, booking rules and published costs, plus a two-day outline and maps you can open on your phone.
Prices below are in Hungarian forints, HUF, as published by the official sources checked in October 2026. Reconfirm your date, especially during holidays. Timings in the itinerary are editorial suggestions rather than reserved admission slots.
Landmarks: group each riverbank together
On the Buda side: Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church and the Buda Castle district. Group them into one outing rather than repeatedly crossing the river. Outdoor walks are distinct from church, museum or paid terrace admissions.
On the Pest side: St Stephen’s Basilica, Parliament and the centre. The basilica is at Szent István tér 1. Sunday church visits start at 13:00; church ticket sales end 17:15. Terrace and treasury hours are 09:00–19:00, with ticketing until 18:30; religious events may restrict access.
An interior Parliament visit requires a ticket and a specific tour. Start with the official site linked below. Photographing the exterior does not give access to the chambers; check the seller’s domain before paying.

Walking and shopping: three different choices
Váci utca: pedestrian shopping that can be combined with Vörösmarty Square.
Fashion Street / Deák Ferenc utca: international brands between Vörösmarty and Deák Ferenc tér, suitable for a short central walk.
Andrássy út: boutiques, architectural façades and the Opera area. It suits travellers combining shopping and architecture; it is different from Váci út.
Great Market Hall: the central market at Vámház körút 1–3. Compare the same product and package size before buying souvenirs, and include the market when it fits your route.

Photo spots: choose your viewpoint

Fisherman’s Bastion: arches and views towards the Danube. An early start is a crowd-management suggestion, not a promise of empty terraces.
Batthyány tér: the Buda bank facing Parliament, useful for a photograph across the river.
Erzsébet tér: Budapest Eye and the city centre. The documentary photograph included here shows this view; check ride prices separately before booking.
The riverbanks near Chain Bridge: keep to pedestrian space and leave cycle routes clear.

Food and halal: evidence before labels
Titiz, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út 60: the restaurant states that its meat is 100% halal. Published daily hours 08:00–02:00; telephone+36 70 213 4218. This is a restaurant declaration rather than independently verified certification.
Al-Amir, Petőfi Sándor utca 18: a Syrian restaurant with published prices. Hummus 2,750, falafel 3,450 and mixed grill 8,550 HUF, plus 10% service. The grill alone therefore costs 9,405 HUF before drinks. Confirm halal requirements directly; cuisine alone does not establish them.
Do not assume every restaurant in an online halal list has been checked. Ask about meat sourcing, individual dishes, sauces and preparation if these are essential to your meal.
