The trip looked simple: Paris to Nice, outbound on 25 October and return on 28 October. A few clicks, a successful payment, and then the confirmation that should have ended the process. Instead, the ticket appeared with dates in November.
This documented experience matters to anyone searching for Booking.com flights, a flight-date change, or the real meaning of a Flexible Ticket. It is not a verdict on the cause before the review is complete. It is a warning about one decisive moment: what happens when a traveller checks the day number but the calendar has already moved to the following month?
The opening image is an editorial illustration. The calendar images below are the original photographs supplied by the reader, whose identity has been withheld.

One moment between October and November
In a photograph taken on 5 October 2026, the French Booking.com flight page is open while the date picker displays November and December. The image alone does not prove a technical fault. It does, however, show why the month name can become the most important detail on the screen when familiar date numbers, prices and the continue button compete for attention.

The detailed image shows the calendar after navigating back to October: 5 is marked as the current date and the pointer rests on 12 October, while the “travel dates” field above still displays 7–14 November. That visual mismatch is the warning. A user can focus on a day number without noticing that the saved field belongs to another month. The image does not establish the cause on its own, but it demonstrates how an interface can confuse someone who reasonably expects the calendar to begin with the current month, especially near the start of that month.
A reader sent OUISTARS Travel photographs from his booking experience. He said he selected 25 October for Paris to Nice and 28 October for the return, while the booking appeared after payment for 25 and 28 November. He contacted flight support immediately, asked for the dates to be corrected, said he would accept any genuine fare difference and explained that he had purchased a Flexible Ticket. The magazine has withheld his name and all booking and contact identifiers.
At publication time, OUISTARS Travel is not attributing the month change conclusively to the platform. The request remains under specialist review. The difference between the intended and issued dates is central to the account, while the later support steps are documented in the conversation.
Who handles a flight booked through Booking.com?
The support window identified the flight service as operating in partnership with Gotogate. Booking.com’s official terms explain that most flights on its platform are supplied through a third-party aggregator acting as an intermediary with the airline. A customer therefore enters an intermediation contract with that party and a contract of carriage with the airline.
In practical terms, the journey may begin on Booking.com, but a change can be processed by another company. Travellers should record the operating airline, the intermediary named in the confirmation, the airline booking reference, the change rules and every optional service purchased.
What did support say?
The agent asked the customer to confirm that both outbound and return flights should be changed, then said the case had to be escalated to the relevant team. That team would check with the airline and seek the best available solution. The process could take more than 24 hours, with contact by phone or email.
The conversation did not end with a refusal, and no final decision on charges had been issued. What is documented so far is an official escalation and a pending review. This article will be updated when the result arrives: whether the dates were changed, the actual fare difference and whether any additional fee was requested.
Does a Flexible Ticket mean a completely free change?
Gotogate’s official help page says its Flexible Ticket permits a flight change regardless of the airline’s original fare rules, subject to availability and with the same airline. If the replacement flight costs more, the traveller pays the fare difference.
Another Gotogate help page states that change fees are waived when the Flexible Ticket is used, although a fare difference may remain. Booking.com’s flight page similarly describes one confirmed change with the same airline, with any fare and tax difference still payable.
“Flexible” does not mean every replacement flight keeps the original price. It means a change remains available under the service conditions, while fare and tax differences may still apply.
If another amount is presented as a change or service fee, the customer should request a written breakdown: what is the fee called, who receives it, and which term authorises it?
The essential warning: do not check only the day number
Digital calendars are designed for speed, and that speed can become a weakness. When looking for 25 and 28, the eye may settle on the numbers without noticing that the heading says November rather than October.
Before paying, read the date in full: day, month, year and route. Then use this six-point check:
- Check the complete date on the results page.
- Check it again in the itinerary summary.
- Check it a third time on the final payment screen.
- Take a screenshot showing dates, price and ticket conditions.
- Open the confirmation as soon as it arrives.
- If anything is wrong, contact support immediately and keep the case number private.
Ten extra seconds can prevent hours of support conversations, a fare difference and an uncertain wait.
If you discover the wrong month after payment
- Capture the confirmation page and displayed dates.
- Download the invoice and Flexible Ticket conditions.
- Open Manage Booking and look for self-service rebooking.
- If it is unavailable, contact support and request a written reference.
- Ask for a breakdown separating fare, tax and service charges.
- Do not consider the change complete until a new email confirmation arrives.
Never publish your booking reference, email, phone number, boarding pass or QR code in a public complaint. Those details may allow another person to access the reservation.
Why this experience deserves to be shared
An online-shopping mistake may mean a late parcel. A flight-date mistake can mean a lost hotel, a missed appointment and another ticket. The words “Flexible Ticket” offer reassurance, but the real outcome still depends on availability, the airline, the fare difference and the intermediary processing the request.
This account does not suggest that every Booking.com reservation will have the same outcome. Its message is more useful: do not let the convenience of the platform replace the final verification, and know who will handle your request if the trip needs to change.
Have you experienced something similar? This investigation remains open
OUISTARS Travel invites readers who encountered an unexpected date change, unclear charges, difficulty modifying a flight or a delayed refund through Booking.com or a flight intermediary to describe the experience in the comments or send it to the magazine. We are looking for verifiable accounts rather than general impressions, so that a clearer picture can be built.
Include the booking date, device and browser, the month shown when the calendar opened, the dates you intended to select, the dates issued in the confirmation, the support response and any fare difference or fee requested. Before sending anything, completely hide the passenger name, email, phone number, booking and ticket references, payment details and QR codes. The editorial team may contact contributors for clarification and will not identify them without explicit consent.
Right of reply and pending outcome
The case remained escalated when this article was published. OUISTARS Travel will add the final response when it is received, including whether the booking was corrected and a breakdown of any requested payment.
