A photograph of snow does not explain how you want to spend the day. You may prefer first lifts, village walks or a spa followed by lunch. Choosing Courchevel or Megève starts with the rhythm of the holiday rather than the most expensive name.

Start with the travelling party

List beginners, experienced skiers, non-skiers, children and anyone combining work with a break. Decide how many days you will actually ski and whether everyone wants the same schedule. A wonderful booking for one person should not determine an unsuitable holiday for the rest.

For clients, establish instructor language, ages, ability and equipment needs before selecting accommodation. The details absent from a bedroom photograph can determine whether the morning runs smoothly: getting to lessons, storing equipment and returning for a pause.

Megève: the village is part of the visit

Megève Tourism presents village life, gastronomy, indoor activities and wellness alongside skiing. Compare it when you want time for strolling and restaurants as well as snow. Check where the actual hotel sits relative to the places you will use.

A chalet that looks close in a photograph may require a vehicle to reach the village or lift. Ask about the entrance, drop-off and winter walking route. Straight-line distance on a map is not a realistic journey with children or ski bags.

Courchevel: choose the address within the resort

Courchevel’s official site lists non-skiing activities, spas and fitness options. Do not reduce the choice to skiing alone. Identify the village or level of your accommodation and its relationship to the restaurants and lifts in your programme.

Ask what ski-in/ski-out means in practice. Does the route suit your ability and depend on a particular piste being open? Confirm actual access and equipment arrangements with the accommodation. The label does not remove every local transport need.

Hotel or chalet?

A hotel may suit guests wanting daily services, dining and shared facilities; a chalet changes the balance of space and meals. Compare chef, groceries, cleaning, local transport and staff hours in the same quote. Serviced is not a standard universal list of inclusions.

For families, check bedrooms, beds, connecting doors and child policies. Confirm spa and pool access separately. For a working guest, establish connectivity and a usable quiet space rather than assuming a small desk in a shared bedroom solves the problem.

Arrange the essentials before arrival

After accommodation and transport, book lessons, equipment, passes and restaurants against the actual schedule. Ask each provider about changes, cancellation and weather effects. Avoid a distant lunch that makes a child’s lesson difficult or an excursion squeezed between appointments.

Snow, roads and opening arrangements change. Check operational information for the date. Request a suitably winter-equipped vehicle with room for ski equipment. Helicopter travel, if requested, requires operator confirmation, availability and suitable conditions; it is not a guaranteed road alternative.

Five questions decide the choice

Where will most days start? What will the non-skier do? How will children reach lessons? What does accommodation include? How will everyone and their equipment arrive and return? Clear answers matter more than choosing the name seen most often online.

For France transfers and destination planning, send OUISTARS dates, party size and luggage details. Hotel, lesson and facility availability need separate confirmation. This comparison guarantees neither snow conditions nor a universally superior resort.

Practical questions before travelling

Is Megève only for non-skiers?

No. Compare the group’s interests, accommodation location and activities rather than using an absolute distinction.

Is ski-in/ski-out suitable for beginners?

Check the access route, ability required and operating conditions with the property.

Does a chalet include a chef and car?

Not necessarily. Obtain a written list of services, hours and extras.

For a private itinerary, arrival or transfer, ask OUISTARS about available services and their terms before confirming a booking.
