A small saving on airfare can buy an unnecessarily difficult arrival. Before choosing a Paris airport, compare the journey to your actual hotel, the arrival hour, your luggage and the first commitment in your diary. The useful price is the cost of the whole journey.
Start with the hotel address
“Paris” is not a precise destination. An Opéra hotel, a Left Bank address, a meeting in La Défense and a stay in Versailles call for different onward journeys. Enter the full address into a transport planner for each airport at the expected arrival time. Include the final walk, not just the main train or car ride.
For a short business visit, ask whether luggage storage or an early room is available. A morning landing does not make a bedroom ready or leave you instantly free for a meeting. Keep breathing space for an aircraft delay and the arrival process.
Understand ORY and CDG
Orly uses the code ORY; Charles de Gaulle uses CDG. The regional transport authority’s airport guide identifies metro line 14 for Orly and the RER B for CDG. That provides a starting point for a comparison, rather than a universal winner.
Check the flight actually being sold: its operating airport, departure and arrival times, whether it is nonstop, baggage allowance and change conditions. Do not assume every airline offers both airports, or that selecting “Paris” in a booking engine fixes your preferred airport. Read the return itinerary too.
Compare the complete rail journey
CDG has two RER B stations, so match the station and onward route to your terminal rather than relying on a familiar-looking name. For Orly, consider the line 14 route and the walk at each end. Consult RATP’s airport ticket and access information before travelling.
Count changes, walking and luggage handling. A route that feels simple alone with a cabin bag can be demanding with a pushchair and several suitcases. Check lifts and planned works for the travel date. An old timetable saved on a phone cannot confirm the service running that evening.
A cheaper flight is not always a cheaper trip
Add checked bags, seats and ground transport to the airfare. Then consider what the arrival hour does to your plans. A small saving may disappear if an itinerary needs an extra hotel night or an inconvenient transfer. With a flexible schedule and light luggage, public transport may be the sensible choice.
When comparing car quotes, send the same brief: flight number, hotel address, passengers, bags and child-seat requirements. Ask how waiting, parking, delayed flights and cancellations are treated. Two attractive headline prices can cover quite different services.
Three ways to arrange a car
A hotel can arrange transport; official taxis are another option; or you can reserve directly with a chauffeur operator. Ask the hotel who operates its service and which terms apply. For a direct booking, obtain written confirmation of vehicle capacity, meeting point and cancellation conditions.
Passenger seats alone do not establish luggage capacity. A pushchair, sports equipment or large cases can change the vehicle needed. An arrivals-hall welcome is also different from assistance in restricted airport areas. Do not assume a transfer includes passport-control priority, fast track or aircraft-door access.
Families and business delegations need different briefs
For a family, fewer changes, the right child seat and a clear meeting point may matter most. For a delegation, prepare a flight list, one lead contact and a plan for arrivals spread across several flights. Tell the operator whether guests should leave separately or wait to travel together.
If your itinerary uses different Paris airports, plan that transfer as a separate journey. Ask the airline whether baggage must be collected and checked in again. Do not build a tight self-connection around a best-case road journey or assume separately bought flights have connection protection.
The booking checklist
Keep airport code, flight number, terminal, full address, bags and a reachable contact together. Add mobility and child requirements in advance. Confirm what happens if the terminal changes, luggage is delayed or your mobile data does not work.
The best airport is the one that fits the whole visit. For a Paris itinerary or a pre-arranged transfer, ask OUISTARS for availability, a clear service description and written terms before confirming any special request.
Practical questions before travelling
Is Orly always better than CDG?
No. Compare the available flights, hotel address, arrival hour, luggage and complete onward route.
Does a chauffeur booking include passport priority?
No. Ground transport and an arrivals welcome do not establish entitlement to priority border or security processing.
What details does an arrival booking need?
Send the flight, airport code, address, passenger and luggage count, child requirements, and request the meeting point and waiting terms.
For a private itinerary, arrival or transfer, ask OUISTARS about available services and their terms before confirming a booking.
