Los Angeles airport update · 16 October 2026
Hollywood Burbank Airport has moved all arriving and departing flights into its new passenger terminal, opened on 13 October 2026. The $1.3 billion facility keeps the airport’s 14-gate scale while replacing the 1930s complex with a larger building, a central security checkpoint, indoor baggage claim and a different road entrance.
The entrance has moved
Drivers should not navigate to the former Thornton Avenue terminal entrance. The new front door is at Hollywood Way and Winona Avenue, on the opposite side of the airfield. Check the live map before leaving because an old saved location, taxi favorite or hotel instruction may still point to the previous complex.
Check-in, security and baggage
The replacement terminal brings ticketing and self-service kiosks into a larger hall and uses one central security checkpoint. Baggage claim is indoors with three carousels. More charging points, seating, food and retail space are intended to reduce congestion, but travelers should still respect airline-specific check-in and bag-drop deadlines during the opening period.
Parking, rental cars and ground transport
Short-term, long-term and valet options remain available, with shuttle links where required. The relocation changes the most convenient approach for pickups, rideshare and rental-car returns. Confirm the correct drop-off point with the airport rather than asking a driver simply for “the old Burbank terminal.”
What has not changed
The airport remains a compact 14-gate alternative to Los Angeles International Airport. Passengers will continue walking outdoors and using stairs or ramps for many boardings, a familiar BUR feature. Airlines and nonstop destinations are not automatically changed by the terminal move.
Why the terminal was replaced
The former terminal stood unusually close to the runways and no longer met modern seismic, accessibility and operational expectations. The new building is farther from runway conflicts, fully electric on site and designed with improved circulation while preserving the airport’s smaller scale.
Quick answers
Are flights still using the old terminal?
No. The airport says arriving and departing flights moved to the new terminal from 13 October.
Did the airport code change?
No. Hollywood Burbank Airport remains BUR.
Should I arrive earlier during the transition?
Allow extra time to learn the new entrance, parking route and terminal layout, while following the airline’s stated deadline.
What to do now
Share this guide with anyone flying BUR: the airport code is unchanged, but the passenger entrance and terminal location are new.
