Last updated: 28 September 2026, 23:34 Paris time (CEST). Airline and terminal assignments were checked on this date; your airline app, boarding pass and the airport’s live screens remain decisive on the day of travel.
Terminal 2A is one of Paris–Charles de Gaulle’s original long-haul gateways—and it is about to acquire a new identity. Opened in 1982, reshaped by the 2A–2C connector and renewed again through works completed in 2025, it will join Terminal 2C under the name Terminal 3 from 16 March 2027. This guide explains the architecture, airlines, passenger flow, lounges, transport and the practical details that matter before a flight.

The story: a terminal designed to grow “like a plant”
Terminal 2 was conceived as a modular alternative to the monumental circle of Terminal 1. The Centre Pompidou’s Paul Andreu archive records the central idea: the airport should be able to grow in stages without paralysing the buildings already in service. Halls A and B were the first pair. They were thin, elongated buildings placed close to road and aircraft, designed so that passengers could see sky and runway and understand the route intuitively.
Terminal 2A was inaugurated on 24 March 1982 by President François Mitterrand, with architect Paul Andreu present. Its original promise was simple: shorten the distance—physical and psychological—between car and aircraft. Aviation later became more security-intensive, retail more central and connecting traffic more complex. The building therefore had to evolve without losing its compact logic.
The 2A–2C connector: when two halls gained a new heart
The decisive transformation arrived in 2012. Groupe ADP created a 16,600 m² connecting building between 2A and 2C, an investment reported at €71 million. Border and security controls were pooled, while 2,300 m² of shops and services were organised around a Paris-inspired department-store concept and an “Avenue” of luxury and food. The project was not cosmetic: it was meant to make orientation clearer and passenger processing more fluid.
Further renovation of Terminal 2A was carried out through 2025. That matters when reading older maps or watching older videos: the bones of the terminal are familiar, but counters, shops, control arrangements and walking routes may have changed.

Which airlines use Terminal 2A in 2026?
Verification note: the following is not a permanent master list. CDG reallocates airlines, check-in zones and sometimes individual flights. We separated carrier-confirmed information from secondary airport guidance and checked it on 28 September 2026.
| Airline | What is currently confirmed | What the passenger should do |
|---|---|---|
| American Airlines | The airline’s own CDG page lists Terminal 2A, Zone 8. | Check the flight status and arrive at the terminal shown in the AA app or boarding pass. |
| Cathay Pacific | The airline’s airport page lists Terminal 2A, Zone 7. Its renovated lounge reopened in late 2025 in Terminal 2A/2AC. | Check opening hours against the day’s Cathay departure. |
| LATAM Airlines | LATAM’s trade notice says Paris-CDG check-in moved to Terminal 2A, Area 4, from 21 April 2026. | Confirm the operating carrier and terminal, especially on codeshares. |
| Air Canada | Air Canada’s current lounge directory places its Maple Leaf Lounge in Terminal 2A. | Verify the flight terminal separately; lounge location alone is not a guarantee for every movement. |
| Other carriers listed in current RATP guidance | Air Astana, EL AL, Oman Air and Royal Jordanian are listed alongside Air Canada and Cathay Pacific for 2A. | Treat this as useful orientation, not a substitute for live flight information. |
Air Tahiti Nui is a good example of why old lists should not be copied: its current passenger page places check-in and departure at Terminal 2D and arrival at 2B, although older Terminal 2A maps listed it there. Accuracy at an airport has a timestamp.
Check-in, controls and boarding
1. Start with the flight, not the terminal memory
Search the flight number on the airline app or Paris Aéroport’s live information before leaving. At CDG, a familiar airline logo does not always mean the same hall forever. Codeshares make the operating carrier more important than the marketing carrier.
2. Read the zones and screens
Terminal 2A is organised around check-in zones and A gates. Go first to the zone printed on the live screen, not to a counter remembered from a previous journey. The official map historically shows gates in the A37–A51 range, but gate numbering and access will change with the airport’s March 2027 renaming.
3. Allow for three separate processes
Check-in or bag drop, security screening and—on many non-Schengen journeys—border control are distinct. PARAFE automated border gates may accelerate the passport step for eligible travellers, but technology does not remove the need for police and security teams. It reduces repetitive checks and helps officers focus on exceptions; human decisions remain essential.
4. Follow the final call on the screen
Shopping and lounges sit between controls and gates, but the far end of a boarding area can still require time. Recheck the gate after passport control and again before settling in a lounge.
Lounges and the premium layer
The 2AC connector contains some of the terminal’s best-known premium spaces. American Airlines lists an Admirals Club in the connector between 2A and 2C. Cathay Pacific’s lounge—on Level 2—was renovated and reopened in December 2025, with dining, work areas and shower suites. Air Canada lists a Maple Leaf Lounge in 2A. Access depends on airline, cabin, status and opening hours; do not assume that a premium ticket on an unrelated carrier grants entry.
The lounge story also explains the terminal’s evolution. The 2012 connector turned a once-linear departure process into a shared commercial and hospitality core. In other words, the building stopped being merely a corridor to an aircraft and became part of the journey.
Services: what you can reasonably expect
Official Terminal 2A maps identify information points, accessible-passenger reception, baby-care areas, toilets, cash services, baggage scales and wrapping, tax-refund functions, shops and food outlets. Some are before security and others after it. Because leases and operating hours change, use the airport’s current map on the day rather than treating an old store list as permanent.
- Reduced mobility: request assistance through the airline at least 48 hours before travel when possible, then use the signed assistance point.
- Families: keep documents and liquids accessible before screening; baby-care facilities are marked on airport maps.
- Tax refund: complete the process before checking any goods that customs may need to inspect and follow the terminal’s current PABLO/customs signs.
- Lost property: distinguish between an item lost in the terminal and baggage missing after a flight; they are handled by different entities.
How to reach Terminal 2A
RER B and TGV
RER B and high-speed trains arrive at the Terminal 2 railway complex. From there, follow the signs for 2A; do not exit toward another hall simply because it is called “Terminal 2.” Travellers with heavy luggage, children or reduced mobility should build in an additional wayfinding margin.
CDGVAL
From Terminal 1 or the Terminal 3/Roissypôle area, take the free CDGVAL to the Terminal 2 station, then follow signs inside the complex. CDGVAL connects major terminal zones; it does not deposit passengers at every lettered hall door.
Taxi, chauffeur and drop-off
Use the official taxi rank at arrivals and ignore unsolicited approaches inside the terminal. A pre-booked chauffeur or meet-and-greet can be useful for a family, a group, an executive itinerary or a tight hotel transfer, provided the meeting point and flight monitoring are confirmed in writing. OUISTARS can arrange a private CDG transfer or meet-and-greet when it genuinely simplifies the journey.
Connections: the mistake to avoid
Terminal 2A and 2C share a connector, but a connection to 2E, 2F, 2G, Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 may involve a longer route, shuttle and additional controls. Follow the yellow “Correspondances / Flight Connections” signs and the route associated with the next boarding gate. Never plan a self-transfer as if CDG were a single compact building; collecting and rechecking baggage can change the risk entirely.
Security without theatre: what good airport order looks like
An airport is a revealing public institution, but one visit is not a scientific ranking of a country. The useful indicators are more concrete: clear signs, orderly queues, accessible facilities, clean public areas, official prices, visible help and calm intervention when something goes wrong. Security is strongest when the traveller feels guided rather than intimidated.
At CDG, border police, customs, airport security, airline teams and thousands of cameras and information systems work as layers. Much of the protection is deliberately unobtrusive. That does not mean the absence of checks; it means checks are designed to be targeted, documented and supported by technology. Travellers should never offer unofficial payments or tips to accelerate a process. If anyone solicits money outside a clearly priced commercial service, move to an official counter and report it.
March 2027: Terminal 2A becomes part of Terminal 3
From 16 March 2027, the present Terminal 2A and Terminal 2C will be grouped as Terminal 3. This is a renaming and wayfinding reform, not a relocation of the buildings. Outside security, passengers will follow terminal numbers; after controls, boarding areas will use letters. Groupe ADP says more than 3,000 terminal signs, 600 parking signs and 250 road-sign elements are involved.
Why publish this now? Airlines selling travel a year ahead began incorporating future names from March 2026. A 2027 ticket may therefore say “Terminal 3” while a traveller’s old memory says “2A.” Both can describe the same physical part of CDG—before and after the switchover.
Editorial verdict
Terminal 2A is not CDG’s most theatrical building; Terminal 1 owns that role. Its intelligence lies elsewhere: a compact 1982 module repeatedly adapted to new border, security, retail and long-haul demands. The 2AC connector gave it a civic centre; the 2025 works renewed its operating life; the 2027 name change will finally make its place in the airport easier to explain.
For the passenger, the best strategy is equally simple: verify the operating airline, trust live information over old lists, arrive with a sensible buffer and read the airport in layers—number outside, zone at check-in, gate after controls.

The following independent walkthrough was filmed in 2016. It is useful for understanding the scale and 2A–2C relationship, but it is not a current navigation guide after the 2025 works.
